We’re looking for a highly skilled Controller to lead our accounting function and strengthen the financial foundation of our real estate, property management, and construction company. Reporting directly to the COO and working closely with ownership and department leaders, this is a unique opportunity to guide our accounting team, shape financial strategy, provide insights that drive decisions, and ensure operational excellence. This is a hands-on leadership role where your expertise and leadership will make an immediate impact on a dynamic, family-owned organization that values integrity, collaboration, and results.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead, mentor, and support the accounting team while fostering collaboration and accountability.
  • Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, fixed assets, and intercompany transactions.
  • Manage daily cash flow, banking relationships, and credit card programs.
  • Direct monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes; prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements.
  • Lead the annual budget cycle, rolling forecasts, and long-term financial planning; report significant variances to leadership and ownership.
  • Provide financial modeling and analysis for capital investments, new projects, pricing decisions, contracts, refinancing, and strategic initiatives.
  • Monitor debt levels and loan compliance; partner with lenders and manage refinancing efforts.
  • Oversee ownership reporting, equity tracking, distributions, and owner compensation.
  • Coordinate all external audits (financial, tax, insurance, sales tax) and provide required documentation.
  • Ensure timely completion of tax filings, corporate reporting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead process improvements, strengthen internal controls, and optimize financial systems (QuickBooks, Prophix, Procore, Buildertrend, Sage).
  • Conduct special projects such as overhead analysis, billing rate analysis, cost segregation, profitability, and valuation tracking.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA strongly preferred).
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with 3+ years in a Controller or senior leadership role.
  • Industry experience in real estate, property management, or construction preferred.
  • Expertise in GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and internal controls.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks and Prophix; advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Familiarity with construction/project management software (Procore, Buildertrend, Sage) a plus.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a growing, multi-entity organization with diverse operations.
