NY HELPSThis title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At this time, agencies may recruit and hire employees by making temporary appointments. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.DUTIES DESCRIPTION The Office Assistant 1 duties in the Bureau of Administrative Support Services will include but are not limited to the following: Incumbent is responsible for a variety of duties necessary for the operation of agency's mailroom Provide customer service and clerical support Answer incoming calls, take messages or forward to appropriate staff Sort, distribute and deliver mail Process outgoing mail Receive, unload, sort, count, distribute and deliver supplies Maintain stockroom storage area, stock shelves, perform stockroom and warehouse inventory Operate and perform basic maintenance on office machines and equipment Valid license to operate state vehicle is required Other duties as assignedNON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSThere are no minimum education or experience requirements for this title.COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSPermanent service in this title or one year of permanent competitive or 55-B/C service in a title SG-4 or higher and otherwise eligible for transfer under Civil Service Law.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent communication skills Able to work independently or as part of a team Familiarity with basic hand tools and battery-operated drill Able to understand and carry out written and oral instructionsIt is essential that candidates clearly and concisely indicate exactly how they meet the above minimum qualifications in their resume. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
